Call for Applications: Second Asia-Pacific Workshop on Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Competition

The Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition, National Law University, Delhi is organising the second Asia-Pacific Workshop on Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Competition from February 5 – 10, 2018. This workshop will take place at the National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi).

About CIIPC

The Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) has been established at NLU Delhi with the aim of supporting academic and policy-oriented dialogues in the areas of innovation, intellectual property (IP), and competition. CIIPC focuses on interdisciplinary legal research in the areas of innovation, IP and competition, particularly using the law and economics approach. About the workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to explore contemporary issues at the interface of IP law and competition law in the following industries:

  • Agriculture & Biotechnology
  • Automobiles
  • Creative Industry
  • Information & Communication Technologies (ICT)
  • Online Platforms
  • Pharmaceuticals

In an era of technological disruptions, it is important to deliberate on different policy concerns and options for competition law-related interventions. By conducting detailed discussions on contemporary IP and competition law developments in six different sectors mentioned above, this workshop intends to provide the audience with a comprehensive overview of unsettled issues and potential policy interventions.

This workshop is open for academicians, practitioners, and regulators working on IP and/ or competition law issues in the Asia-Pacific regionSelected participants will be required to make a short presentation on a topic of their choice, which must pertain to the intersection of IP and competition laws  in the specified sectors

All the sessions in this workshop will be led by prominent academicians, industry representatives, and regulators from across the world.

How to Apply?

Interested participants may submit their resume, a statement of purpose (max. 500 words, indicating interest/ experience in this area and how you may benefit from this workshop), and an abstract (max. 500 words) mentioning the research questions and methodology for the proposed presentation.  

The documents should be sent by email to [email protected] with a cc to [email protected], with the subject line “Application for the 2nd Asia-Pacific Workshop”, on or before  October 31, 2017.  Shortlisted candidates will be notified by November 15, 2017 .

Financial Assistance

There will be no registration fees to attend this workshop. Further, CIIPC will provide accommodation (on a shared basis) for the participants from 4th to 11th February, 2018. Additionally, snacks and lunch will be provided during the days of the workshop. In general, the participants will have to take care of their travel related expenses. However, CIIPC can cover the travel costs for a limited number of candidates. If you would like to be considered for scholarship to cover your travel expenses, please mention this specifically in your covering letter.

Workshop Schedule

The workshop will start on February 5, 2018 at 9:00 am (IST) and will end on February 10, 2018 at 4:00 pm (IST).  Participants are required to attend all the sessions. The tentative schedule is as follows:
